C. mentiens has a slender stem and the lateral sepals are fused at the base. I will need an image taken from low to the ground to ID this plant. More likely to be C. carnea.
Some are more difficult to ID than others, especially from photos. Superficially many species look identical, do it's difficult to know what features to capture. I also love the hunt, but identification provides a different sort of entertainment.
