Good photo Jenny. Anas platyrhynchos X Cairina moschata (Domestic Hybrid) - Mallard X Muscovy Duck (Domestic Hybrid). This has been seen a few times on Jarramlee Pond over the years. Ref sighting from 2010 4388955. This guy is a lot larger and a fairly noisy example as against the smaller 2010 sighting. Under its wings and on its rump it has grey/brown markings which are more obvious when he/she stretches wings.

Ok thanks. There is a stand of very tall eucalypts on the opposite bank quite close to the main swimming hole. Don’t know the species. Although I’ve never seen them on that side of the creek it’s surely possible. I’ll check them out for possible nesting holes

Only a nesting area if there are very large, mature eucalypts (usually Yellow Box or Blakely's Red Gum) with suitable hollows.
